Agriculture in the desert – Turning arid desert into arable land for agriculture
60 percent of the land in Israel is defined as desert area with less than 200 mm rain per annum. This has resulted in adjusting agriculture to the climatic conditions to avoid farms failing and allowing families to live off the land.
Israel has found a way to turn desert into arable land and is recognized worldwide for this ability. This has been achieved by adjusting crops to high temperature and using drip irrigation systems with brackish water. Cherry tomatoes are one example of the many vegetables being grown successfully under these conditions.
We can arrange a study tour that will include climate change and the development of solar energy solutions, arid land agriculture and the irrigation of crops such as olives, tomatoes and peppers, amongst others, with brackish water.
Also included will be harvesting of rain water and the solutions for the use of waste water in agriculture.
